Mindscape Installation Support

If you cannot find any electronic help in the other Technical Support sections, please let us know and we'll be able to assist you in getting your title to install and run with stability.

We regret that we cannot offer game hints and tips or quick 'how to' guides, as the service is provided for installation difficulties. Each program we distribute/publish will contain either an electronic manual (normally found under 'Help' in the program.) or a paper manual in the box. When contacting technical support, please provide as much information as you can about your computer system and the problem that you are experiencing. Mindscape's Brain Trainer Common Problems:

1. Problem: Under some circumstances Spelling Test shows no words when played in Daily Test mode. Another symptom is that the Spelling Test shows ‘Level 0’ in Daily Test.
Solution: This affects a minority of users and can be fixed by running the attached program while Brain Trainer is not running. Click here to download a patch.

2. Problem: The following error message sometimes appears when running the program: Error loading data @2
Solution:
This is caused by the MDAC component of Windows being absent or incomplete, so Brain Trainer cannot access its database. MDAC can be downloaded and installed from Microsoft.

3. Problem: If you were trying to install the original Mindscape's Brain Trainer on a Vista machine a message might appear saying DirectX is not installed or up to date
Solution: To fix this download and run this patch www.braintrainingsoftware.com/downloads/vistaDX.exe

4. Problem: Buttons dont appear in the game.
Solution: It happens when your desktop is set to 16 bit colour – if you change your desktop to 32 bit colour then it should work correctly.

5. Problem: When registering the program it comes up with "wrong product SKU"
Solution: Don't fill out the registration page, just click on the cross on the top right hand corner to close the screen and the program will continue.
